By the print of this column our plans should be with council and I’ll be updating shortly on the time and  process of dealing with our council.

So all things going well we have a finalised design, there have been a couple of minor changes to our lounge layout as we have discussed how we want it used, where we want the fire/TV shelving etc.

We have spent a lot of time on our kitchen layout and appliances in the last few weeks. Our designers wanted us decide on appliances as they would determine the final cabinetry etc. . I initially imagined this would be a pretty straight forward process, go in choose some appliances and be done, probably take 1-2 hrs.

3 Weeks later we managed to finalise our kitchen appliances! Primary down to choosing a fridge. We were after a integrated/ built fridge to keep clean lines in the kitchen. However as we found there are a limited number of integrated fridges and they are either really small or cost close to a small car. The size of the fridge also determines the rest of the kitchen sizing so nothing could progress until we had decided on the fridge.  The choices we ended up with were –

  • Get the small fridge and deal with it.
  • Small fridge plus a bar Freezer to fit elsewhere in the kitchen
  • Purchase larger built in fridge

We ended up ruling out the last 2 options, both would end up taking more space in the kitchen then we really wanted to give up and the large fridge was pretty much what i had envisioned we would spend on all kitchen appliances. We decided we would adapt to a small fridge but specify enough room in the cabinetry so we could put in a bar fridge/freezer if needed in the future.

So that is the kitchen signed off, fingers crossed the other rooms will be a bit simpler.
